Ramon R. Herrera, Jr., a beloved father and grandfather, passed away on April 22, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He was 78.
Ramon was born August 23, 1946, in Corpus Christi to Ramon Herrera, Sr. and Carmen (Ramirez) Herrera. He married Lydia Casas in George West on April 10, 1977. The couple made George West their home where they raised their children and were active and faithful parishioners of St. George Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher at St. George.
Ramon devoted more than 35 years of his professional life to George West ISD where he was admired and adored by his peers, staff and most of all the students. He will be remembered for his humorous personality, which brought joy and laughter to all who crossed his path.
Ramon loved all sports but was a fan of the George West Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a proud grandfather to all his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmen and Ramon Herrera Sr.; his beloved wife, Lydia Herrera; his son, Albert Anthony Herrera; two sisters, Jesusa Herrera and Rosa Herrera-Olivarez; and three brothers, Mateo Herrera, Manuel Herrera and Luis Herrera.
Survivors include his daughter, Clarrisa Herrera of Houston; two sons, Jeremiah Herrera of George West and Christopher (Yesenia) Herrera, Sr. of Grapevine; five grandchildren, Christopher Herrera, Jr., Isabella Herrera, Mallory Herrera, Caleb Williams and Callen Williams; and three brothers, Lupe Herrera of Corpus Christi, Amelio (Gloria) Herrera of Vernon and Pedro Herrera of Mathis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, at St. George Catholic Church in George West with a Rosary to be recited at 6 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at St. George Catholic Church with Father Romeo Salinas officiating. Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Herrera, Jr., Caleb Williams, Callen Williams, David Herrera, Rocky Lane, Abel DeLeon, John DeLeon and Jose Herrera.
Honorary pallbearers will be Amelio Herrera, Lupe Herrera and Pedro Herrera.
