Ramon S. "Pete" Maxwell, age 79, of Brookwood, Alabama, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.
He was a retired US military veteran with 21 years of service in both the Navy and Army, including stations in Cuba, Vietnam, and Panama.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Hallman Maxwell. He was a loving father to his children, Tina Medders (Greg) and Stan Maxwell (Katherine), and a wonderful grandfather to McKay Medders, JP Maxwell, Alex Medders, and Avery Maxwell.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Harvey Maxwell, his mother, Wilma Kizziah Maxwell, brother, Buddy Maxwell, and sisters, Betty Whitehead and Lucy Maxwell. He is survived by one sister, Mary Alice Lindsey of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Bill Matthews, Del Whitehead, Max Whitehead, Gabe Fisher, Rick Bragg, and Gary Brackner. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Brookwood Masonic Lodge #509, friends and neighbors of the Howton and Brookwood communities, and Randy and Deloris Harris of Phenix City, Alabama.
Special thanks to William A. Hill, M.D. for 30 years of cardiac care.
Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel, Rev. Gary Youngblood officiating, with burial and masonic rites at Christian Union Cemetery in Brookwood following the services. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Union Church Cemetery Fund, 15436 Brackner Drive, Brookwood, AL 35444.
