Our dear Ramona Gibbons, 88, of Madrid, Iowa passed into the loving arms of Jesus on September 2, 2024. Thanks to the wonderful ministry of home hospice care, Ramona died peacefully in her home of many years surrounded by family. She was born in Guthrie County to Elston and Ruby Charter and moved to a few various places before landing in Madrid in her junior high years. She met Floyd (Pinkie) Gibbons at that time and married him in 1955. She and Pinkie were just short of celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary.
Ramona leaves behind many family and holiday traditions that will be cherished for many years to come. She was always mindful of her elder friends and relatives, often visiting them and bringing them some treat made in her own kitchen. She took care of her family with a sacrificial kind of love that often had her up early in the morning. She worked various positions in the Madrid School System but her main focus was her home, her faith walk with Jesus, and her family.
She enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, swimming, travel, dancing, cooking (especially for her family), watching the birds and deer out her family room windows, and especially her involvement with her church, The Mission Church (formerly First Federated Church).
Ramona is survived by her husband, Floyd (Pinkie) Gibbons; her sons Kerry (Becky) Gibbons Kimberling City, MO and Kevin Gibbons Madrid, IA; grandchildren Jake Gibbons Boone, IA and Jeremiah Gibbons St Louis, MO and Kira (Phillip) Ligon Sun City, AZ; and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at the Iles- Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid, IA. Services will be Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at The Mission Church, Urbandale, IA. A private burial will be held for Ramona's ashes at Mt Hope Cemetery in Madrid, IA on a future date.
