Randall Glenn Ashcraft passed away unexpectedly on January 27th, 2024 at the age of 68 from cardiac arrest.
Randy was born on July 5th 1955 in Rexburg, Idaho to Glenn and Lalamae Ashcraft. He was the third child out of 6 and the oldest son. He grew up in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School in 1973. After high school, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Perth/Adelaide Missions in Australia. In 1976 he returned home to help his family and community recover from the destruction from the Teton flood. That fall he started studies at Rick's College where he met his eternal companion, Karen Hudspeth. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 12th 1977. They built a home in Burton where they raised their 5 children.
Randy was instilled with a strong work ethic early in life, from helping family on their farms and working at a grocery store, that he carried throughout his entire life. During Randy's career, he started working with his father building houses in the Rexburg area and then was employed by Utah Power & Light working as a meter reader, then later a draftsman. He left Utah Power in 2000 and began working for JRW architects as a drafter. After JRW, Randy started his own business, 4 Seasons Property Service, where he did property management for many places including Parkside Townhomes.
Randy was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a strong testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He served in various callings, including several bishoprics on campus. He enjoyed serving in the Scouting program and was awarded the Silver Beaver for his distinguished service. His love of owls came from Woodbadge where he also served on the staff for several years. Randy also developed a love for, and enjoyed being, an active amateur radio operator.
Randy enjoyed serving others, especially his family members. One of his recent accomplishments was building the house that he and his wife moved into in 2022. He loved traveling and spending time with family and working out in the yard.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Karen (married 46 years), children: Tyler (Anndrea) Ashcraft of Eagle Mountain, UT, Heidi Ashcraft of Wayne, NE, Megan (Isaac) Hewitt of Rigby, ID, Katie (Christopher) Balmer of West Yellowstone, MT and Jason (Kayla) Ashcraft of Rexburg, ID. He has 17 grandkids with one on the way. Sisters Donnetta Arnold, Cheryl McLean, Bonnie Hill and brothers Gary Ashcraft and Kim Ashcraft.
