Randall Wayne Gilmer, known to friends and family as Bubba, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on March 4, 1955, in Cartersville, Georgia, Bubba lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure.

Bubba graduated from Campbell High School in 1973, where he not only earned his diploma but also made a name for himself on the football field as a proud member of the varsity team. His athletic prowess was just one of the many facets of his dynamic personality.

After high school, Bubba embarked on a career with CSX railroad, where he worked as an engineer. His dedication and commitment were evident throughout his 42-year tenure, and he retired with distinction in March 2015. Bubba was known among his colleagues as someone who could always be counted on, whether it was for a job well done or a sarcastic quip to lighten the mood.

Bubba had an adventurous spirit and a love for the great outdoors. He was happiest when he was on the move, whether it was carving down ski slopes, water skiing on a lake, or scuba diving in the ocean’s depths. His love for travel took him to many places, and he never missed an opportunity to embark on a new adventure. Bubba was known for his sharp sense of humor and his knack for sarcasm, which endeared him to everyone he met. He had a way of making people laugh, even in the most unexpected moments.

Bubba was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Gilmer, who stood by his side through every journey. He is also survived by his children, Steve Hathcock, Ashley Stenglein, and William Hathcock, who will always cherish the memories of their father’s boundless energy and his unwavering support. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren Christopher, Gardner, Luke, Pete, Havi, Liza, Liam, and Levi. He was affectionately known to them as Granbub. His brother Barry Gilmer, his sister Gay Gray (David), and his nephew Matthew Gray also mourn his passing but celebrate the incredible life he led.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Emma Gilmer and Reverend Arthur Clayton Gilmer, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.

Bubba’s life was a testament to the joy of living fully and without reservation. He embraced every opportunity for adventure, and he did so with a smile on his face and a joke ready to go. His love for his family was as vast as the ocean he loved to dive into, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Bubba’s life will be held and the services will be private, where stories will be shared, laughter will be encouraged, and his memory will be honored in the way he would have wanted—with love, humor, and a sense of adventure.

Rest in peace, Bubba. Your journey may be over, but your spirit lives on in all of us.
