Lebanon, VA – Randall Herndon, age 82, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024 with his wife, Louise, of sixty years, by his bedside. Randy was a coal miner, went on to be an inspector of mines, and he retired from the Bureau of Mines. He loved his family and friends. Randy was of the Baptist faith and attended Bethel Baptist Church until his failing health prevented him from attending. He was a people pleaser, always helping others. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a charter member of the Lebanon VFW and a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #251.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his sons: Randall Herndon, Jr. (John) and wife Vicki, Robert C. Herndon and wife Karen; daughters: Teresa (Tee) and husband Todd King, Tracy and husband Kevin McCown; brother: Gary Herndon and wife Donnette; sister: Markeatter Cecil; seven grandchildren: First Class Petty Officer, Corey Graham King, Morgan Nicole Hicks and husband Levi, Belle Dobson and husband Taylor, Carrigan Leigh King, Alyson Lynane McCoy and husband Stephen, Dylan McCown, and Kailey Grace McCown; two great-grandchildren: Isla Jon Dobson and Eli Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his father, Muncie Herndon and his mother, Mable Williams Herndon; one brother: June Houck and one sister: Patty Whitt.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024 in the Combs-Hess Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Arnold King and Rev. Larry Burton officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2024 in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:40 a.m. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #251 and Military Rites will be conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post 9864.
Pallbearers will be Chris Kiser, Todd King, Kevin McCown, Dylan McCown, Taylor Dobson, and Stephen McCoy.
Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Levi Hicks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.act.alz.org, Ronald McDonald House, www.rmhc.org, or a charity of your choice.
