Randall Stuart "Randy" Kinzel was born on May 6, 1952, at Deaconess Hospital in Havre, Montana, the second child and first son of John and Miriam (Deppmeier) Kinzel. Randy passed away from natural causes at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana on April 29, 2025. Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Kuper Memorial Cemetery in
Chinook, MontanaHe was a confirmed member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chinook, and later, a member of the American Lutheran Church in Harlem. He attended school in Harlem, graduating from Harlem High School in 1970. He attended Montana State University until he decided that college wasn't for him.
Randy married Patricia Townsend, a schoolteacher in Harlem, on July 30, 1977. Pat had a heart condition and Randy was devotedly by her side through her ups and downs until her death in 1988.
Randy worked as a plumber's assistant with Pete Jergeson and later Ed Cuerth in Harlem, worked at Montana Merchandising in both Harlem and Chinook, being promoted to manager in Harlem in 1988. He wasn't happy being "the boss" and moved to Conrad to work in the Montana Merchandising mill there, returning to Harlem in 1992. At that time, he worked with his brother-in-law, raising cattle and farming, which seemed to be the job he loved the most. Later, while working full time, he also did odd jobs at Deb's Diner and EZ Mart. Most recently, Randy worked with Fred and Sandy Miller and became part of their family as well. He retired when his health prevented him from working any longer.
In 1996, Randy married Andrea Quintana, and became an instant father to her four children, Talia, Shawn, Jay and Roberta, a job he embraced fully and dearly loved. He loved and cared for the children and later grandchildren with all his heart. Andrea and Randy later divorced, but Randy remained close with the children.
Randy was a talented musician, especially on the guitar, and even spent a little time learning to play the banjo. He also liked to sing. As a child, he would sit next to the bus driver and sing to him on the way home from school. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting in his younger days, and most recently jigsaw puzzles.
Randy was an animal lover. He brought to his parents many strays, both cats and dogs, because they needed a home. One of his special pets was Joe, a large black German Shepherd who went to work with him daily at Montana Merchandising. Some of you may remember days when Randy left for work without Joe, and you would see Joe racing up the street to get to work! Most recently, Randy's special pet was Daisy. He loved and cared for her and she loved him right back.
Randy will be missed, and remembered for his kind heart and generosity, his musical talent and sense of humor.
Randy is survived by his mother Miriam Kinzel, children Talia Grant, Shawn (Claire) Tsosie, Jay Tsosie, and Roberta Quintana; grandchildren Desmond and Caleb Grant, Simone and Ronan Tsosie and Tierra Quintana; brother Dale (Margie) Kinzel; sisters Yvonne (Mark) Rasmussen and Carla (Rod) Becker; nephew Paul (Kellie) Rasmussen and sons Daniel and Andrew Rasmussen; nieces Kara (Jeff) Doyle and sons Patrick and Jack Doyle, and Kasi (Damian) Balmforth and children Kieran, Lilith and Willow.
