Randy Moore Obituary

Northfield - Randy Robert Moore, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Northfield, MN, on January 21, 2025. Born on October 4, 1954, in St. Paul, MN, Randy was the cherished son of Dr. Robert and Ayleen (McKinlay) Moore. In 1962, the family moved to Northfield, where his father took over the optometric practice of Dr. D.W. Amundson.

Randy graduated from Northfield High School, excelling in both academics and extracurricular activities, lettering in band and wrestling. A proud Eagle Scout, he also received the prestigious Life Saving Award. He pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, where he majored in Geology. Randy later found his professional calling as a database administrator, contributing his skills to esteemed companies such as Rollerblade, TCF Bank, and General Mills.

Randy's passions were as diverse as his talents. He found joy in reading, nurturing bonsai trees, customizing computers, watching movies, and exploring an eclectic range of music. A talented bagpiper, he performed with the Minnesota Pipes and Drums and was an active member of the Cannon Valley Lions Club, as well as a 50-year member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Above all, Randy treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Lynn (Joel) Herrick, and his granddaughter Lane, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his father, Dr. Robert Moore of Northfield, MN; his sisters, Kelly (David) Vikla of Lonsdale, MN, and Lisa (Brad) Johnson of Mankato, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ayleen (Mickey); his brother, Cameron Moore; and his grandparents, Dr. Mearle and Lora Moore, and Archibald and Vera McKinlay.

A celebration of Randy's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to the Northfield Public Library, honoring his love for reading and community.
