Ray Atchison Obituary

Ray Atchison, of Steelville, MO, was born on Wednesday, December 30, 1931, in Sligo, MO, to Hebart Atchison and Flossie Elizabeth Atchison, nee Halbert. He passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO, at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 25 days.
Ray accepted the Lord and was baptized in the Lutheran church as a young boy, beginning a life guided by faith and quiet strength. A proud graduate of Steelville High School, Class of 1950, Ray worked on local farms and then went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to Steelville in 1955, he did farm work, worked at Steelville Supply Store, Steelville Manufacturing and worked many years at Brown Shoe Company where he had the knowledge of all machinery for all departments; which made him able to fix any thing to keep production going. On August 18, 1961, Ray married the love of his life, Rosie Aline Pinnell, at the Presbyterian Church in Steelville, Missouri. Together they shared 55 years of love, laughter, and unwavering companionship.

Ray was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in farming, hunting, and fishing-especially with Rosie by his side. He also loved taking side-by-side rides through the countryside and spending time at "The Shop," where he brought together friends and family for good conversation and lasting memories. Though he was a quiet man, Ray's presence spoke volumes. He was steady, kind, and deeply respected by all who knew him. Simply put, he was as good as they come. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hebart and Flossie Atchison; loving wife, Rosie Atchision; parents-in-law, Grace Pinnell and Lloyd (Marie) Pinnell; siblings, Mack (Betty) Atchison, Bill (Jean) Atchison, Albert Atchison and Bonnie (Lawrence) Self; brother-in-law, James "Haskell" Pinnell; sisters-in-law, Ina (Lindell) Bouse, Dorothy (Rev. Delmar) Hutson and Elizabeth (Eugene) Schmidt; nephews, Joel Atchison, John Hudson; niece, Dana Schmidt and special friend, JT Ransom.
Ray is survived by his nieces and nephews, Linda Hudson of St. Charles, MO, David (Colleen) Schmidt of Steelville, MO, Dale (Debbie) Schmidt of Jefferson City, MO, Spencer (Valerie) Hutson of Cuba, MO, Paul (Pam) Hutson of Steelville, MO, Bonnie Wilson of Rolla, MO, John (Toni) Atchison of De Soto, MO and Ruth Atchison of Union, MO; sister-in-law, Lorraine Pinnell of Villa Ridge, MO; special friends, Joe Ransom, Sharon Ransom, Kevin Mahurin and the entire Ransom Family; many great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation is from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Spencer Hutson officiating. Burial will be at Steelville Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be given to Liberty Cemetery (449 Hwy E Steelville, MO 65565)
