ROCKVILLE - Ray Robert Lewis, 90, of Rockville, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026.

He was born July 15, 1935, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to the late James Robert Lewis and Margaret Woods Lewis Bradfield. Ray is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol Hawn Lewis, whom he married on September 7, 1997, in Rockville. She resides in Plainfield. Also surviving are two daughters, Angie Lewis of Rockville and Margo (Bruce Dickey) Fritz of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; one son, Todd (Becky) Lewis of Rockville; five grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Strother, Abbe (Barna) Verba, Madeline (Alex) Morgan, Alex Cory, and Charlie Cory; eight great-grandchildren.

Ray was a 1953 graduate of Mecca High School. He continued his education at Indiana State University and later earned his doctorate from Ball State University. He dedicated 34 years to education, serving as a school administrator. Following his retirement, he served as Acting Executive Director of the Parke County Community Foundation. He was a member of Plainfield Christian Church and the Parke Masonic Lodge #8.

Services will be held in the spring at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Gooch Funeral Home & Crematory, Rockville.

Ray was a wonderful smart man who loved his family very much we got to know Ray on a everyday level caring for him for the last few years of his life he loved to go eat an take fun truck rides he loved people and loved to play the piano an he could sing like a angel! An oh did he loved his Hershey bars and his hard rock candy and most of all his Coca-Cola he was a very sweet kind loving Christian man. He loved his wife she would make him angel food cake her homemade oatmeal cookies he would smile from ear to ear:) he never complained he was in pain and through it all he help a smile Ray Lewis was a very remarkable man and we will forever miss him an love him
