Cherryville – Mrs. Ray Powell McSwain, 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Carolina Care Health and Rehabilitation in Cherryville.
Mrs. McSwain was born on October 21, 1931 in Cleveland County, NC a daughter of the late Thomas Powell and Elizabeth Parker Powell. She was retired as a prorate clerk after 39 years of service from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in Cherryville. Mrs. McSwain was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jethro William "Bill" McSwain and two sister, Martha Mode and Myrtle Thompson.
Survivors include two nieces, Gail Gilbert of Rutherfordton and Amanda Roper of Raleigh; a nephew Richard McSwain of Cherryville and a sister-in-law, Melba McSwain of Cherryville who were all special to her.
The family will receive friends from 9:45AM to 10:45AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home with Pastor Zack Christy officiating.
Burial will follow at Bess Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Cherryville.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 601 N. Pink Street, Cherryville, NC 28021 or to Bess Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Linda Towery, 2357 Bess Chapel Church Road, Cherryville, NC 28021.
