Rayleen Annette Hendrix, age 83, of Wartrace, TN, passed away at Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital on Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Shelbyville, TN. She was born on September 12, 1941, in College Station, TX to the late Ray and Ethel Nelson.Rayleen is survived by her loving husband of more than 60 years, Robert Hendrix; son, Kenneth Hendrix; daughter, Catherine Dodson; brother, Alton Nelson; grandchildren, Christina, David, Greg and Laura; and great grandchild, Hannah.After High School, Rayleen furthered her education with college classes at Lamar College in Beaumont, TX. She was the founder of Apple Valley Collies and well-respected as a American Kennel Club member and judge. She was influential in many lives as a Girl Scout leader for over a decade. The way she touched other peoples lives through scouting, the Henry Center, the Collie Eye Foundation, the Red Cross, and as a mother lasted a lifetime.She was a dedicated member of Normandy Methodist Church. Her other passions included fly fishing, bird watching, gardening and visiting Scotland. She will be missed by family and friends.A memorial service will be held at Normandy Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with Laurie Raulston officiating.
