Raymond "Ray" O. Anderson of Superior, died on November 14, 2025, at the age of 96 at Twin Ports Health Services.

He was born on April 17, 1929, the son of Thomas and Charlotte Anderson, who were immigrants from Norway. At the age of 16, Raymond sailed on the Great Lakes. Enjoying this experience, Raymond then joined the Navy on his 17th Birthday at the end of World War II.

Raymond was recruited for 'Operation High Jump' the first Navy expedition to the South-Pole in 1946. There, he was under the leadership of Admiral Byrd and was assigned to the USS Yancey. The last year of being in the Navy was spent traveling from Greenland to Cuba on the east coast. Raymond was one of the last surviving crew members of Operation High Jump and was proud to have served his country and took great pride in being a veteran.

Upon his return to the United States, Raymond would spend the next two years of his life in the Middle River Sanatorium after being diagnosed with Tuberculosis. Raymond was given six months to live. With miracle drugs and the collapse of his left lung, Raymond survived this challenge and went on to obtain a degree in Accounting and Business Administration from the Duluth Business University. In 1956, Raymond married Bonnie McKaige. Together they raised three children and celebrated 65 years together until her death in 2021.

Raymond worked on the Great Northern Railroad as a clerk, the State of Wisconsin as a grain weigher, and as a business owner of the Manitou Inn for eight years before retiring from the State of Wisconsin.

Ray specified "I had a good, long life considering setbacks and challenges." Ray enjoyed the love of his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ray enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, woodworking, collecting yard art, playing cards (Pinochle), drinking beer, picking blueberries, and wintering in Mesa, Arizona with his dog "Cry Baby." Ray was a proud Trump enthusiast and an avid supporter of the Twin Ports VA Clinic.

Raymond was proceeded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; brothers, Alvin and Teddy; sisters, Agnes Holmberg and Mable Anderson; and his daughter, Bonnie Rae Anderson-Greatsinger.

Raymond is survived by his sons, Tim of Dallas, Texas and Jeff (Christy Williams) of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Greatsinger, Amy (John) Seip and Jacob Anderson; greatgrandchildren, Maggie Greatsinger, Nathan Greatsinger, and Jack Greatsinger, Malachi Seip, Finley Seip and Solomon Seip. Ray is also survived by his sister, Bernice Lagro of Mesa, AZ; his niece and bonus daughter, Kathy Jarve of Cloquet, MN and Linda Brill of Superior WI who were endless care providers for Ray. Together, Kathy and Linda insisted that Ray "toe the line" in his later years.

Services for Ray will be held in the spring of 2026 with Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St., assisting the family with arrangements.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Twin Ports Health Services and Essentia Hospice for their care of Ray.
