On August 7, 2024, Ray passed away peacefully at his home in Medford. Born in Camden and raised in the Delair section of Pennsauken, Ray graduated from Pennsauken High School in 1967. He went on to attend Peirce Junior College in Philadelphia and later received his bachelor's degree from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. A veteran of the US Army and US Army Reserves, Ray worked for most of his career as a tax auditor for the Treasury Department in the State of New Jersey.
Ray was a volunteer fireman for many years, initially serving in Pennsauken and then in Medford at Taunton Fire Department and finally Union Fire Company No. 1. He used his knowledge and skill as an award winning ventriloquist to put on puppet shows in local schools to teach kids about fire safety and prevention. Ray was also active in scouting being awarded the honor of Eagle Scout and later serving as a Scoutmaster for his son. Ray's other passion was his first car, a black 1938 Buick special, as well as his extensive collections of Star Wars, World War II and Wild West memorabilia, American Flyer trains, robots, space ships and science fiction movies, some of which will be on display at his service.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Florence Farrell along with his sister, Shirley Iannuzzi. He is lovingly survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Rosemary "Rosey" Farrell (nee Denham); his daughter, Kristen (Oscar) Benavides; his son, Scott (Jess) Farrell; his granddaughters, Ava and Emmie Benavides as well as his sister, Susan Farrell.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Monday, August 12th from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at the HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 1816 Berlin Road (Route 561), Cherry Hill where his Celebration of Life will begin at 11:30 AM.
