Raymond "Ray" Thomas Flanigan, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 86. Born on August 18, 1938, in Schenectady, NY, Ray led a life marked by dedication to his family, his profession, and his many passions.
Ray spent his professional career as an esteemed IT Consultant and Chief Compliance Officer, lending his expertise to renowned organizations such as Booz Allen, Standard & Poor's, McGraw Hill, Anaconda, and Ford Motor Company. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and wisdom, who always strived for excellence in every endeavor.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ray was a man of diverse interests and deep passions. A devoted World War II historian, he enjoyed studying genealogy and uncovering the stories of the past. However, it was in coin collecting that Ray found his greatest joy, a passion he pursued with enthusiasm for over 50 years. His membership in the American Numismatic Association (ANA) and the Lower Cape Fear Coin Club bore testament to his dedication to this fascinating hobby.
Ray was equally committed to his community. He proudly served on the Board and volunteered at the North Creek Museum in New York. For decades, he dedicated his time to volunteering at the Brunswick County election polls, ensuring the democratic process continued smoothly.
He was also a faithful member of the Catholic Church, cherishing the spiritual guidance and community it provided.
Ray is preceded in death by his loving parents, Raymond Flanigan and Hazel Bradt Flanigan.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Jacqueline Mixter Flanigan; his sister, Gail Flanigan Sciamanna; his children, Kevin, Terry, and Sherri; and his step-children, John, Todd, and Scott. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Shane, Meghan, and Patrick, as well as his step-grandchildren, Christian, Gabriel, Priya, Naiya, and Alex.
To honor Ray's memory, his family will host an intimate gathering on Monday, March 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
Ray Flanigan will be remembered as a man of great intellect, unwavering dedication, and profound kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him and those who will learn of his life's work for generations to come.
