SEVERN, NC - Raymond Price Johnson, aged 82, who lived most of his life in Speed, North Carolina, peacefully departed this world on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by the loving presence of his family. Born on December 30, 1942, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, Raymond was the beloved son of the late Russell and Evelyn Price Johnson.
A devoted Christian, Raymond was a committed member of Severn Mennonite Church in Margarettsville, where he exemplified a life of faith and service. His deep commitment to his Christian beliefs set a profound example for all who knew him.
Raymond was the proud owner and operator of Johnson Heating & Air and Electrical Contractors. He dedicated most of his life to his work and poured his depth of knowledge and experience into many of his family members and employees. He enjoyed seeing others do well for themselves and helped many other people achieve their own electrical licenses over the years. He is fondly remembered as capable of building anything from scratch and repairing anything set before him.
His notable attributes extended beyond his career; Raymond was known for his great sense of humor, he loved to "pick", and if you were lucky enough to be picked on by him, it meant he liked you. He loved children and would always have some candy for them or a "surprise" as he would call it. He enjoyed his goats and found joy in hunting and fishing during his earlier years. A man who always put others before himself, Raymond's generosity and kindness were felt by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, his cherished grandson Philip Johnson, his brother Russell Johnson, Jr., his sister Beulah Scott, and husband Ernest Scott. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Cherry Davenport Johnson; his children, Mike Johnson and wife Mona of Tarboro, NC, Chris Johnson and wife Katina of Hobgood, NC, Greg Johnson and wife Amanda of Hookerton, NC, and Ginny Johnson of Pinetops, NC. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Eric, Matthew (Becca), Nathan (Holly), Ella, Parker, Amber, and Leah Johnson, and great-grandchildren, Luke, Olivia, Lilly, Walker, and Daisy. He also leaves behind his siblings, Sam Johnson and wife Susan of Hobgood, NC, Charlie Johnson and wife Theresa of Tarboro, NC, Pat Coghill and husband Sonny of Henderson, NC, Judy Johnson of Tarboro, NC, and his sister-in-law, Rebecca Johnson of Hobgood, NC, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service - Letchworth Chapel, 101 West 7th Street, Scotland Neck, NC. A funeral service to honor Raymond's life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Severn Mennonite Church in Margarettsville, NC, followed by burial at Severn Mennonite Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made directly to Severn Mennonite Church, 138 New Hope Lane, Margarettsville, NC 27853, or online at clicking here. Should you wish to send flowers, they may be sent to the family's home.

Loved Mr Raymond..always a kind word to everyone...never heard any thing negative...I remember him resting and eating grapes after working to put in a new air conditioner for us...we have surely missed him these last couple of years.
