Mt. Horeb – Raymond Robert Leigh, a man of faith, family, and country, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Monday, August 18, 2025, just a month shy of his 80th birthday. Born on September 10, 1945, Raymond's life was defined by his dedication to serving others. After graduating from Mineral Point High School in 1963, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving for three years. His commitment to duty continued when he joined the United States Air Force in 1968, where he served for 22 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1990. Not one to stand still, Raymond began a second career with the United States Postal Service, working as a mail handler for another 22 years before retiring again in 2012. Raymond's heart for service extended far beyond his professional life. He demonstrated the love of Jesus through his sponsorship of children around the globe for over 30 years. He was always available to give a friend a ride or meet for coffee or ice cream to talk about his faith. His love for God, his family, and his country was evident in all he did. Raymond is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Carol (Barr) Leigh; his daughters, Cynthia (Dewayne) Hawpe and Amy (Joey) Bernard; and his grandchildren, Abigail Hawpe, Emily Bernard, Melody Hawpe, and Elisha Bernard. He also leaves behind his siblings, Donald (Donna) Leigh, Shirley LaDow, Donna (Ron) Hughes, Linda McLaughlin, John (Cathy) Leigh, Robert (Amy) Leigh, and Paul Leigh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marie (John) McGuire, Butch Barr, Dave (Arlene) Barr, Terry Barr, Connie (Shayne) Chapman, Tim (Leanne) Barr, Jan Leigh, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends he cherished as family. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Delzie and Virginia Leigh; his parents-in-law, Bernard and Annabel Barr; his granddaughter, Hannah Hawpe; his brother, James Leigh; his sister, Nancy Bonjour; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry McLaughlin, Vernon and Pat Van Natta, and Sue Leigh; his niece, Dawn Frye; and his nephew, Chance Leigh. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. Pastor Steven Troester and Pastor Bruce Bennett will officiate. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery in Mineral Point with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Mineral Point American Legion Post No. 170. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at the Mineral Point American Legion Post.
