Raymond Roger Mathon passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 22nd, 2025 at the age of 87.
Chef Raymond's legacy lives on through his two daughters, Monique Gremillion (Steve) and Nathalie Vitter (Lance), and four grandchildren, Curtis Gremillion (Haile), Tyler Gremillion (Abbie), Ashley Vitter, and Sarah Vitter, whom he adored. He is also survived by his two sisters, Gisèle Petit and Michèle Rieffel.
Born on December 1st, 1937, in Chatel Sur Moselle, Vosges, France, Chef Raymond grew up and began his career as a pastry chef at a young age. As he grew older, he joined the French Foreign Legion where he served for two years until leaving and moving to Paris to finish his culinary training. Once completed, Chef Raymond travelled to Antigua where he met his late wife, Gloria Gonsalves whom he was married to for 58 years. Together, the two moved to New Orleans to start a new life and family of their own.
Chef Raymond worked in several remarkable restaurants in the New Orleans area and retired from Beau Chen Country Club after 32 years. During retirement from Beau Chen, Chef Raymond continued to cook for his wonderful family and friends who cherished every meal.
Chef Raymond was a man of few words with extraordinary culinary talents. He will be missed by all of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral Home 75212 Hwy 437 Covington, Louisiana 70435.
