He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Norma Schneider, his father-in-law Antonio Scirocco, and his loyal miniature Dachshund, Buster, whom he loved with all his heart.
Ray is also survived by a countless number of friends - many of whom he had known since childhood in North Plainfield, NJ, and others he gathered through every chapter of his life. To know Ray was to be treated like family.
Born in Baltimore, MD, Ray spent most of his youth in North Plainfield, NJ, later settling in Dunellen in 1993 after marrying. He graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1982 and went on to join the Local 24 Plumbers Union apprentice program in Newark that fall. Over his decades-long career, Ray worked as a master plumber and site foreman until his retirement in 2018. Never one to stay idle, he later worked as an MEP superintendent for Callahan Construction Managers in Bridgewater, MA, after relocating to Massachusetts.
A hardworking and knowledgeable tradesman, Ray was known for his dedication to every job he touched. Ray was passionate about many things: the New York Rangers, Miami Dolphins, New York Mets - and even learned to tolerate the Boston Red Sox. He was a true car enthusiast, fascinated by both antique and modern models, and could talk for hours about their design and history. Whether it was cars, sports, or his proud Irish heritage, Ray had a story and a smile ready for every conversation.
Above all, he was a devoted father. Ray coached nearly every sport his boys played - from their earliest days in cleats and jerseys to their time on high school teams. He even joined the coaching staff at South Plainfield High School, rivalry and all. Through coaching, friendship, and laughter, Ray impacted the lives of so many.
Throughout his life and right through his final days, Ray remained loyal, honest, funny, and full of love. He was the kind of person everyone was grateful to know - and he will be missed deeply by all.
A celebration of Ray's life is being planned, and a date will be published soon.
