Raymond Schreiner Obituary

Published by Clore-English Funeral Home from Apr. 6 to Apr. 8, 2011.

Raymond Leslie Schreiner, III Raymond Leslie Schreiner, III, died early Sunday, April 3, 2011 at his home in Culpeper, Va., at the age of 57. Ray is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" M. Schreiner, his parents; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond L. Schreiner, Jr. of Richmond, Va.: three sisters: Leslie Theisen of Greeley, Colo., Alice Beachy of Glenn Allen, Va., Barbara Webster, of North Platte, Neb., two step-children: Alice Elizabeth Simanson of Great Fall, Va. and Jefferson Randolph Hebler of Fauquier, Va., and three step-grandchildren: Wesley Randolph Hebler, Grayton Elizabeth Simanson, and Augustus Hamilton Simanson.

Ray attended Augusta Military Academy in his youth and graduated from Hughenot High School in 1972. He was employed ten years with Newport News Shipbuilding. Upon moving back to Richmond, Va., his birth place, Ray became interested in maintenance and worked with Great Atlantic Property Management, United Dominion Realty Trust, Chelsea Square Apartments and Alliance Residential Management, where he received Service Technician of the Year in 2002. In 2004, Ray moved to Culpeper and was employed by Drucker & Falk, LLC whose services were relinquished to Jefferson Homebuilders, Inc. in 2009.

Ray was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and was presently serving as Junior Warden of the Vestry. He regularly donated blood with the Red Cross. His concerns for political issues could keep him talking for hours, but Ray had time for everyone else's needs. On the job, Ray took the time to talk with residence and listen to their news, worries, and concerns. He never saw a homeless animal he wouldn't feed or give care. His love of our country was great! He saw our soldiers as the present day "He-Men and Women." Ray was an avid reader of many genres, a lover of motorcycles, movies, and music, whether it was Vivaldi or Iron Maiden.

Most importantly was Ray's loyalty to his family. He regularly called his parents' every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Ray came anytime someone asked him to fix a brake, feed puppies, change a light bulb or make a P.B. & J. He would spend 30 minutes handing a little grandson a rock to drop in a creek, so the child would practice saying, "Splash!" It was not uncommon to see him walking behind a grandchild for as long as he/she wished answering all the questions a little one could ask, while taking the time to look at all the treasures the child might find outside. For the last year, he lived mostly as a bachelor on weekends due to his mother-in-law suffering a massive stoke, and never complained!

Raymond Leslie Schreiner, III was unique, kind, and loving. He will be sorely missed, especially by me, his sixth grade sweetheart.

Memorial services were held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 115 N. East Street, Culpeper, Va. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 7:13 p.m. with Father Michael Gray officiating,

I worked with Ray for several years at McDonald Street Apartments in Louisa. He was a good worker, but an even greater friend. I will miss our conversations, laughs, arguments (ha....had fun with those) and our Friday lunches at Roma's.
Ride free Ray-Ray.....I never got to take that ride you promised me on your Harley; catch you up in Heaven for that one later my friend.
I love you Ray.....and I will miss you forever.
Betsy and Ray's Family......I am very sorry. Please accept my sincere condolences...
May God BLESS you all...
