Raymond Lee Schumacher

Raymond Schumacher, age 86, of Hubbard, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Hubbard Care Center
in Hubbard, IA.
Raymond Lee Schumacher was born on December 9, 1936 in Gilmore City, IA. Ray was one of seven children to Raymond and Myrtle (Fay) Schumacher.
Ray received his education by attending the Quasqueton Public School where he graduated with the Class of 1956. After high school, Ray enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in France for three years.
Upon returning home, Ray got a job with Penick & Ford in Cedar Rapids where he worked for 15 years. He was married to Joyce Nost but that later ended in divorce. Three sons were born into this marriage. He later married Barbara (Mast) Ahrens on August 1, 1970. After Penick & Ford, Ray went to work as a sheet metal worker at Quaker Oats for another 16 years, before he retired. After he retired, he and Barbara spent ten winters in Arizona where he became very involved with playing tennis.
In 1995, Ray and Barb moved to Hubbard where he spent much of his time working for area farmers and doing woodworking in his shop.
Ray was a member of the Faith Evangelical Church in Radcliffe, Hubbard Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity, Hubbard Food Pantry and attended various Bible classes.
Ray is survived by his wife Barb of Hubbard, IA; three sons, Joe (Carolyne) Schumacher of Seattle, WA, Jeff (Denise) Schumacher of Kimberly, ID, and Jimmy (Frida) Schumacher of Parrish, FL; one stepdaughter Dena (Cory) Wiechmann of Hubbard and one stepson Chuck (Linda) Ahrens of Sedalia, MO; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother John (Sheryl) Schumacher of Toddville, IA; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Austin Wiechmann, and five sisters Mary Hair, Alice Hough, Jennie Rose Schupfer, infant Patty Jean Schumacher and Margaret Zimmerman.
