Raymond Starzec Obituary

In his earlier years, Ray volunteered with the Fox Lake Fire Department and later took on a full-time role at the Northbrook Fire Department where he served for 23 years as a firefighter, paramedic and engineer retiring in 2006. Ray loved his family deeply, and spending time with his grandchildren was his greatest joy. He was a wonderful grandpa, father, and husband. Ray had a passion for antique cars and finally bought '72 antique Cougar and '68 Skylark convertibles. He could often be found tinkering with them in the garage. He also enjoyed building model fire trucks and had many in his collection. Additionally, he was a devoted fan of Chicago sports teams and had a special enthusiasm for auto racing, particularly NASCAR. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family who will always keep him deep in their hearts.
Survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane; sons, Christopher (Jennifer), Scott (Anthony) Starzec; daughter, Kimberly (Wayne) Fellows; grandchildren, Dylan, Shauna Starzec, Eric, Breanne Fellows.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Steffens.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL.
A Mass of Resurrection will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2118 Main Street, Spring Grove, IL.
Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery immediately following the mass.
Memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.

To Mary Jane and the entire STARZEC family: having worked with Ray for many years, he was absolutely the best engineer/driver on our department.
Ray is gone, but will not be forgotten. May Ray find peace being held in the arms of Our Lord for all eternity.

Our sincere condolences on the loss of your husband and father. We first met Ray the first winter we moved into our house. We had a very heavy snow and I said to my husband, "there is a Santa Clause and he's packing a snow blower!" We have been friends ever since. He and my father were both mechanics and firemen, so we had a lot of common ground. Ray was always a man you could depend on when you had mechanical problems. We will miss him dearly.
