Obituary of Raymond Merle Uncapher Jr.
LADSON – Ray, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 5, 2023, in his home. A private family memorial service will be held.
Ray was born June 5, 1928, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to Lilly Mae Buttermore Uncapher and Raymond Merle Uncapher, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Esther L. Uncapher, his daughter Deborah Braun, his daughter-in-law Deirdre Uncapher, his son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Susanne Uncapher, his grandchildren, Lauren Uncapher Stokes (John), Daniel Uncapher, Christopher Braun, Eric Braun (Kayli), Morgan Braun (Sal), Laura Uncapher Garcia (Roger), and Emily Uncapher Bass (Austin), and his great-grandchildren, Olivia Thomas Braun, Haiden Thomas Braun, Malcolm Braun, Louis Braun, Abraham Braun, Eliana Garcia, Alandra Garcia, and Tinsley Bass, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald Ellsworth Uncapher, his sister, Florence Uncapher Ramsey (Kenneth), and his son Randall Uncapher.
Ray had a successful retail career. During his 34 years with Montgomery Ward & Co., his work ethic and fair dealing helped him advance from a salesman in Daytona Beach, Florida, through various positions across the United States, before landing in the corporate offices in Chicago. However, he was happiest working as a store manager, with one-on-one interaction with his customers and staff. When Ray was not working, he loved to fish, play cards, shoot pool, and travel, especially to see his grandchildren.
