Rebecca passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 3, 2025, at her home. She loved spending time in her flower garden, caring for flowers, and sitting to enjoy them. She loved yard work, spending time outside, and being at the beach. She loved decorating for Christmas; a normal Christmas for her consisted of 18 trees and 20 wreaths around the house. Rebecca's most cherished pleasure was spending time with her family and doing things for them. She was loved by many people and possessed a depth of character that is seldom seen. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her, especially her family.
Rebecca was born on December 2, 1946, to Gilmer C. and Ruby Welborn Boles. She was a graduate with honors from Surry Community College and was a long-time member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Tim Darnell, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Scott and Shannon Graham Darnell, of Black Mountain; and grandchildren, Carter G. Darnell and Davis W. Darnell.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Charity United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.
Flowers will be accepted, and memorials may be made to the Elkin Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 118 N Elkin Dr, Elkin, NC 28621, and/or the Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2497 Roaring Gap Church Rd. Thurmond, NC 28683.
