Rebecca J. Howell, 81, Matawan, N.J., passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born on September 4, 1941, in Willow Lake, South Dakota, Rebecca was the oldest of three brothers and one sister. She was raised in De Smet and after high school moved to New York City a.k.a. "the big city".
Rebecca enjoyed going out dancing in her younger years and loved entertaining family and friends with her delicious cooking. Rebecca made sure that everyone around her never went hungry. Rebecca loved her family dearly. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Her many relationships with friends were immensely cherished. She adored spending time with family and watching her grandchildren's sporting events, plays, and concerts. Rebecca's summer weekend happy place was Monmouth Park, the track, where she most recently celebrated her 81st birthday with family.
Rebecca is predeceased by her parents, John and Laura Huisenga, brothers Kenny and Ron Huisenga, sister Cindy Huisenga, son Al Nitti, and grandson Nick Phelan. She is survived by her children, daughter Marie Phelan and her husband Rich, daughter Adrienne Harrison and husband James, and son Josh Carty and wife Gloria; her grandchildren Erin and Rachel Phelan, Jack and Kate Harrison, Lesly Delgado, and Jocelyn Carty; her brother Roger Huisenga, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
