Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2024Location: St. Andrews Episcopal Church
Mrs. Rebecca Ann Shamblen, 76, was called home while surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. She was born in Washington, DC to John and Mildred Lanham. "Becki" grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC and graduated from Crossland High School. Within a few years, she became a military wife and traveled the world while raising her three sons.
Becki moved to the Hampton, VA area in the early 1990's and worked as a Civil Servant for the United States Army for many years until her retirement in 2010. She married her husband James Shamblen at an outdoor ceremony at The Chamberlin Hotel in 1997. She was a long-time member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Newport News, VA, and served in many positions, including recently as Chairperson of the Alter Guild. Her experience as a military wife served her well as she volunteered for many years alongside her husband with the 101st AIRBORNE Division Association and the 39th Engineer Alumni Association. She and Jim loved to travel, with one of her favorite trips being their yearly visits to Normandy France, to commemorate the D-Day invasion alongside other 101st Airborne friends.
Becki was predeceased in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, James Shamblen; her sister, Virginia Spivey; her brother, John Lanham Jr; her sons, Jason (Crystal) Bew, Jeremy Bew, Joshua Bew, Doug Shamblen (Judith); her daughter, Susan Waters (Jon) and her cherished grandchildren, Jozlyn and Jojo Bew, Ethan and Jordan Bew, Caroline Mercer, Jack Waters, Nick Piscitelli, and Samantha Martin.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Newport News, VA with a reception to follow. Becki will be interred at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Andrews Episcopal Church or the 101st Airborne Association Foundation. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
