Roy Dale Shamblen, age 90 was born in Green Township, lowa on November 8, 1934. Roy went to be with the Lord in the afternoon on Saturday, July 12, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas as he was surrounded by a big circle of comfort and love from family members.
In June 1959, Roy married the love of his life, Carolyn Joyce Poil in Oceola, lowa. The two of them shared 66 wonderful years together and had three children.
Recently a stranger asked Roy on their 66th wedding anniversary, What the secret is to having a lifetime of marriage?, Roy answered the stranger's question with a smile, and said "Love".", "Love is the secret!,"
This has been Roy and Carolyn's true secret for 66 years as the love for each other has never failed them. As a young man, Roy began his military career in the Army Reserve before joining the United States Air Force where he was a Radio Intercept Operator in the Intelligence Unit.
During his twenty-year USAF career, he participated in tours to England, Thailand, Turkey, Germany, and served in the Vietnam War before retiring in 1974, in San Antonio, Texas.
In 1978, Roy and Carolyn opened their own business, Shamblen Enterprises and spent until the year 2000, traveling all over the United States selling Western Wear Accessories and Darts at different Stock Show and Rodes Events. In 1995 they opened Darts & More Dart Supply Store in San Antonio, Texas, where they spent their time selling Dart and Billard supplies to the San Antonio community until closing the store in 2016.
Roy loved being around friends and family; he was always telling jokes or stories from his life's journeys to all the grandchildren so he could put a smile on their faces. His family meant the world to him and he never let a day go by without showing each and every one of us know just how much they are loved by him, and meant to him. His family is truly going to have an empty void within the family, where he once stood.
Roy not only loved all of his family and friends, he also never met a stranger and his friendliness was an asset, always with a quick smile, a laugh, and a twinkle in his eyes as his knowledge of so many subjects came into the conversation. He welcomed each and every person with open arms, love in his heart, and would always go out of his way to help anyone that needed a helping hand
Roy will be truly missed and still loved by everyone who ever got the chance to talk with him and got the privilege to know him.
Roy is proceeded in death by his parents Merrill and Dorothy Shamblen, his sisters Gene, Betty, and Norma, his brother Charles, and Grandson Justin Shamblen.
Roy is survived by his wife Carolyn Poil Shamblen of San Antonio, Children Stephen Shamben of San Antonio, Patricia Shamblen, and Rebecca Shamblen of Natalia, Grand Children Krystal Contreras and husband Lorenzo of Natalia, Joseph Shamblen, and Brianna Bendele of Natalia, Great Grandchildren Kayten Martinez and husband Jose of San Antonio, Jayzlen Contreras, and Kaleena Contreras of Natalia, Great-Great Grandchildren Jaileb Espitia, Kayzleigh Espitia, and Jaziel Espitia of San Antonio.
