Refiko Demce

Refiko Demce, 93, of Moosup, CT gently passed from this life to the next while she was surrounded by family at her home on October 31, 2025.

She was born to Ysen & Sanije Bato in Podmocani village, formerly of Yugoslavia, on March 10, 1932 where she grew up with her 5 brothers. She married Kasem Bajram Demce in 1956 where she resided with him and his family in his home town of Bela Crkva. He would immigrate to the US in 1961 as a refugee and send for his wife and children whom finally arrived in 1965.

Refiko was a hard working mother centered around family, caring for her children and grandchildren then greeting great-grandchildren as they came. She was patient, wise, sweet and loved her family with all her heart. Refiko was a maternal force and cared for everyone with every ounce of strength she had right up until the end.

She is survived by two brothers, Riza and Mazlem Bato of Illinois along with many nieces and nephews. Her four children, Pembe Doresi of Birmingham,MI, Sherif Demcevski, Irene Ferraj and Aslan Demce each of Moosup, CT. along with 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Kasem in 1984 and more recent, her precious daughter Debbi Cela of Pomfret, CT in 2018.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, ,November 5th, 2025 from 10am - noon at the Dougherty Brothers Funeral Home, 595 Norwich Road, Plainfield, CT. Burial will follow at 1pm at All Hallows Cemetery in Moosup, CT.
