Rena (Corey) Goulette went to be with her heavenly father on Friday March 7, 2025. Born on June 1, 1935, to the late William and Una (Marsha) Corey, she grew up and lived in Enosburg in her early years. She attended Enosburg schools where she played basketball. She met her husband ("he was one of the hot shots that used to come in from St. Albans") while working at Carneys Restaurant in Enosburg. She continued her waitressing at the food counter for Fishman's Department Store in St. Albans, where she was known for her amazing coleslaw. She then worked for Kaye's Shoe Store, ending her working career beside her husband at his home business – Goulette Insurance Agency.
A true Jeopardy fanatic, you knew not to call her between 7 and 7:30, only being able to call after 7:30 to see if she got the Final Jeopardy question correct. Most often she did. A very avid UVM boys basketball fan, we all got a kick out of her jumping up out of her chair watching the game at home on TV when UVM got a basket. She had such enthusiasm for the team. She enjoyed watching golf on TV too. Most of all, she loved reading – referring good books out to her daughters and granddaughters.
She was an active volunteer in her church and community, being one of the original members to the board of directors for the opening of Martha's Soup Kitchen in St. Albans. She belonged to the Faith and Hope Circle at her church – St. Paul's Methodist Church of St. Albans, worked numerous rummage sales, turkey suppers, and take-out dinners.
She loved every one of her family, cherishing the times they visited. We will miss most of all her sense of humor and her sassy but witty comments that always brought a smile and laughter to all around her at the time. It wasn't the birthday cards you received that you kept, it was the envelopes that had her own artistic touch to it.
She leaves behind her truly devoted husband of 65 years, Robert "Shorty" Goulette. Her children, Stephen Goulette (Terry), Laurie Gaudette (Roland), Chris Goulette (Diane), and Alicia Cyr (Real). She also leaves 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren: Dan Goulette (Lisa), Richelle Reid (Phil), Molly Coons (Casey) Colin Gaudette (Codi), Hannah Gaudette (and partner Caleb), Logan Goulette (and partner Keri Ann), and Rileigh Pelletier (Austin); Garrett and Genevieve Reid, Brooke and Hunter Goulette, Adaleigh Chevalier, Birklee Coons, Clayton Gaudette, and Greta Chaffee, nieces, nephews, as well as, many friends in her church and surrounding community. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Harold and Donald Corey, and a brother-in-law Paul Goulette.
When driving by McDonalds, stop in and have a "small caramel frappe, no whipped cream, no drizzle" in honor of her. It was her favorite. She and Shorty went for a ride every afternoon so she could get one.
Rena's family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, St. Albans with a service to follow at 1:00 PM.
Rena's family asks that memorials in her name be made to Martha's Kitchen, 139 Lake Street, St. Albans, VT 05478 or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, St. Albans, VT 05478.
