Oakland - Elisabeth Anne (Dubord) Goulette, 91, of Oakland, died peacefully Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.
Betty was born in Waterville on July 14, 1933, the third child of F. Harold Dubord and Blanche Letourneau Dubord. Family legend has it that her brothers, Richard and Robert, then 12 and 8 years old, were not pleased with the new addition to their family and for years told her she was left on the doorstep by gypsies. In truth, they both adored her and she adored them.
Betty graduated from Waterville High School in 1951. She attended Colby College and graduated from Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists in 1954. On September 25, 1954, she married James Donald Goulette, a dashing sailor who had recently begun what would turn out to be a 25-year career in the Navy. Betty moved her family 19 times in 21 years from Brunswick, Maine to Subic Bay, Philippines, and many stations in between. Jim and Betty were married for almost 57 years and raised four children, one with special needs. Together, they had many excellent adventures. They endured hardships. They shared joy and laughter. They were great dancers.
Betty had many interests and incredible talents. She was an accomplished pianist who led family singalongs and for years accompanied the Waterville High School chorus. She was active in local musical theater. A lifelong learner, she took art classes and creative writing workshops. She was a prolific knitter and cross-stitcher. She had a passion for puzzles jigsaw, crossword, jumbles. They kept her sharp into her 91st year.
Betty is survived by two sons, Greg (Maria), of Freeport, and Jim, of Spokane, Washington; a daughter, Julie Deacon (Jeff), of New London, NH; and a sister-in-law, Jeannette Bolduc (Bob), of Mercer. She also leaves six grandchildren, Melanie Kaufman (Alex) and Derek Goulette (Robin) of Spokane, WA, Ian Rowe (Sarah) of Boxford, MA, Alex Rowe of Haverhill, MA, Emily Goulette, of Hollis, and Tara Goulette of Maricopa, AZ, as well as seven great grandchildren, Rocco, Finn, Lucky, Lucy, Elena, DeAndray and Yunique, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jim, and her daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Goulette.
Betty's family thanks the wonderful staff of the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, who lovingly cared for her in the final months of her life, and Beacon Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care during her final days.
The family will hold a private burial.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville. An online guestbook may be signed, condolences and memories shared at www.gallantfh.com.
