Our dear mother passed away peacefully from this earthly life to reunite
with her loved ones in the spirit world on the morning of April 25, 2025
in Layton, Utah at the age of 79. We will miss her.
Renae Olson Clinger was born February 23, 1946 in Preston, Idaho to
Wesley Ernest Olson and Verna Lucy Redington Olson. She was the middle
child with an older brother, Dennis, an older sister, Nola, a younger
brother, Jerry, and a younger sister, Tina.
She spent her younger life in Salt Lake City, her grade school years in
Spokane, Washington, and her high school years in Lewiston, Idaho, where
she graduated from Lewiston High School.
She attended BYU and while at home during June of 1969, she met, and
later became engaged to Melvin S Clinger. They were married on December
20, 1969 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints.
During the year of 1970 she gave birth to their firstborn, son, Matt,
while Melvin was serving in the Vietnam war. Matt was later joined by
Nathan, Kimberly, Kristine Renae, Jonathan, Kathryn, Nathaniel, and
Ethan.
After Melvinâ€TMs enlistment in the military was over, the family moved
from Idaho to Utah while he worked on and completed his education. They
later moved to Freedom, Wyoming, where they built a house and raised
their family.
Renae and Melvin were active in their faith. As members of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they attended the temple regularly in
Provo, Idaho Falls, and later in Star Valley. Renae greatly enjoyed the
opportunity that she had with Melvin to serve in the temple baptistery in
Star Valley.
Renae was faithful in fulfilling her church callings. She loved sewing
for her family, and made many cherished blankets and quilts. She enjoyed
quilting with her friends and neighbors. One of her cherished church
callings was to serve over the Ward humanitarian work. She was very
diligent in that calling, and was released only after her rheumatoid
arthritis made it too difficult to complete projects.
She will be remembered as a kind and loving sister, a faithful wife, a
loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and a dear and beloved
friend.
She loves her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loves her family. She loves
being a mother. She enjoyed interacting over the years with friends from
BYU, Star Valley, and most recently the Sunridge Assisted Living center
of Layton, Utah.
She is survived by her children, Matt (April) Clinger, Nathan
(Elizabeth) Clinger,
Kimberly (Steed) Purcell, Kristine Renae Ford, (Julie Kirkham) Clinger,
Kathryn (Stephen) Heggie, Nathaniel (Julie) Clinger, and Ethan (Lacey)
Clinger. Her siblings Nola Budge, Jerry Olson, and Tina (John) Fisher.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Jonathan
Clinger, her granddaughter, Adelaide Clinger, her brother Dennis, and
his wife Joyce, her brother-in-law, Arvin Budge, her sister-in-law, Lola
Olson, and brother-in-laws Martin S Clinger, and David S Clinger.
She is grandmother of 36 and great grandmother of 8.
