Renee Charlet Spiehler, age 57, passed away on January 12, 2024, in Houston, Texas. She was born on
September 18, 1966, in Metairie, Louisiana. Renee was a beloved wife, mother, and friend, and will be
deeply missed by all who knew her.
Renee was the most beautiful, sweet human being both inside and out. Despite living most of her adult
life in a wheelchair due to a lifelong battle with Friedreich's Ataxia, she remained strong and never
complained. She loved God, her family, her friends, and cherished every moment of life.
Renee was a Certified Public Accountant and worked alongside her father at Charlet and Smith CPA
Firm. She was dedicated to her profession and excelled in her field.
She attended St. Edward The Confessor Primary School, Archbishop Chapelle High School, and pursued
higher education at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Renee found solace in her faith and was a member of St. Martha Catholic Church, where she
worshipped.
In her free time, Renee enjoyed gardening and watching hummingbirds and monarch butterflies. She
loved the Wheel of Fortune and could compete with even the best contestants. These simple pleasures
brought her joy and peace.
A Memorial Mass will be held in honor of Renee on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 2:00 pm at St.
Martha Catholic Church, located at 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter, TX 77365.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the NAF National Ataxia
Foundation. Donations can be made online at https://www.ataxia.org/donate.
The Darst Funeral Home in Kingwood, Texas, is assisting the family with the memorial services.
Renee is survived by her loving husband, Gustave Spiehler, and her two sons, Andrew and Sean Spiehler,
her grandson Leo Spiehler, her mother Dorothy Charlet, and her brothers Michael, Robert and Timothy
Charlet. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence "Billy" Charlet.
Renee's kind spirit, strength, and love will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough
to have known her. May she rest in peace.
