Rev. Fr. LTC Fintan Kilmurray, U.S. Army, Ret. Obituary
Rev. Fr. LTC Fintan John Kilmurray, U.S. Army, Retired, age 72 of Lumberton, passed away on September 19, 2025, in Lumberton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Kilmurray; his mother, Josephine Kennedy Kilmurray; and a brother, Philip Kilmurray.
Fr. Fintan is survived by his brothers, Fineen Kilmurray of Dublin, Ireland, Owen Kilmurray of Dublin, Ireland, and Liam Kilmurray of Ottawa, Canada; his sisters, Janet McConnell of Dublin, Ireland, and Anna Rooney of County Kildare, Ireland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was educated at St. Patrick’s College in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland and was later ordained a priest for the Diocese of Biloxi, MS. Fr. Kilmurray was ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 1977 and upon his arrival in the Diocese of Biloxi, he held the following assignments: August 29, 1978: Associate Pastor of St. John the Evangelist, Gulfport; February 22, 1982: Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart, Hattiesburg; September 11, 1982, Associate Pastor, Our Lady of Fatima, Biloxi; October 14, 1982: Appointed Co-Chaplain of Biloxi Polie Department; May 1, 1984: Associate Pastor of St. James, Gulfport; July 25, 1989: Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Victories, Pascagoula; May 1, 1990: Pastor of St. Ann Parish in Lizana, he was also responsible for Our Lady of Chartres Mission in Delmas. After Lizana, he served as pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Wiggins; St. Lucy Mission, Lucedale; and was the current pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Lumberton and St. Joseph Mission, Poplarville.
He retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel serving in the Chaplain Corps. He enjoyed taking his dogs to the lake, watching movies, gadgets and anything tech related.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, September 26, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Poplarville. Visitation will be from 9:30 am – 11 am in the church. Arrangements are being made for the service to be livestreamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/rev-fr-ltc-fintan-john-kilmurray-u-s-army-ret. He will be interred in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery in Lumberton, MS.
