Rex Haun, 60, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Born in Knoxville, TN to the late Roy & Lula Dunlap Haun, he had lived in the area until 1992. Growing up in Knoxville, he graduated from Carter High School in 1979, and went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee in 1983. Rex was loved by classmates in both high school and college. Due to his friendly disposition and quick wit, he was always the center of social gatherings. His friends knew him to have a selfless quality that all appreciated and drew others to him. After college, Rex worked for several years, primarily with the Boy Scouts of America, before joining the DeRoyal Company. Selling medical equipment for DeRoyal is what brought Rex to Valdosta in 1992, where he met his wife, started a family, and continued to work for DeRoyal for almost 30 years.
Rex has always been a devoted family man. He cherished his time as a beloved coach for his daughter's soccer team, taking his son to the movies, decorating the home for the holidays, or traveling with his wife. He loved his family and the time he spent with them. Cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers was a favorite pastime, as well as spending weekends playing golf, taking meticulous care of his yard or just reading a good book. He had a smile that could light up a room and a presence that encouraged laughter to fill the air.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Langdale Haun of Valdosta; a daughter and son in law, Alex & Beau Allen of Simi Valley, CA; his son, Austin Haun of Valdosta; two brothers and sisters in law, Turk & Jo Haun and Hans & Rene' Haun, all of Knoxville. Also surviving are his father in law and mother in law, Bob & Sybil Langdale, two sisters in law and brothers in law, Julie & Alan Stout and Keri & Aaron Darnell and a brother in law, Harley Langdale, all of Valdosta; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. He will also be missed by faithful companions, Charlee & Oliver.
The funeral for Rex will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, November 27, 2021 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Mac Weaver will officiate. Interment will follow at a later time on the family lot at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, prior to the service from 1 pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), at http://donate.nami.org/, who are matching donations dollar for dollar for the remainder of the year. Condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of www.mclanecares.com. The service will also be livestreamed from the Tribute Wall tab of his obituary. Carson McLane Funeral Home.
