Rex Hamilton Maxwell, 84, of Greenwood went to be with his Lord Monday, January 12, 2026.

Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026 at New Hope Fellowship Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Pallbearers include Milton Ward, Timmy Fletcher, John Teague, Clyde Cole, Jerry Clyde Stinnett, and Rick Wilson.

Rex was born September 21, 1941 to Charlie Maynard and Clara Fred (Gentry) Maxwell in Decatur, Texas. He was united in marriage July 9, 1960 to Barbara Cheryl Ashley in Slidell, Texas. Rex was a rancher and in the Agriculture Industry most of his life. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Clara Fred Maxwell; his sisters, Virginia Wood and Carolyn Addison.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 65 years, Barbara Maxwell of Greenwood; his daughters, Daphne Teague and husband Tobey of Krum, and Teresa Crutsinger and husband Keith of Whitesboro; his son, Tim Maxwell & Bobbie Joe Horton of Greenwood; his 7 grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, Caitlyn, Bridget, Kylie, Cade, and Travis; and 12 great-grandchildren, Yates, Henri, Brooks, Eleanor, Hilly, Calvin, Porter, Oliver, Moxey, Brady, Amelia, Owen and baby girl Steger; his sister, Kathleen Stinnett and husband Jerry Clyde of Bridgeport; extended family and a host of friends.
