Rex Lamar Metzger, 86, of North Manchester, Indiana, passed peacefully at 3:23 pm on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 31, 1939, in Silver Lake, Indiana, to Don Adam and Sarah Catharine (Beigh) Metzger.

Rex was a 1957 graduate of South Whitley High School and served in the Air National Guard. He married Betty Jane Chittick in Carroll County, Indiana on October 3, 1965. Rex was a dairy farmer for 26 years, and also worked as a crop insurance adjuster. He was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren. Rex enjoyed farming, welding and working with his hands, but his true love was for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Metzger of North Manchester; four children, Susan K. (Greg) Chipman of South Bend, Indiana, Matthew W. (Audra) Metzger and Jennie R. (Kirk) Pyle, both of North Manchester, and Ethan Christopher (Jodi) Metzger of South Whitley; 12 grandchildren, Morgan (Becca) Metzger, Marrett Metzger, Erin (Devan) Hirons, Samantha Metzger, Sarah Pyle, Anna Pyle, Rebekah Pyle, Emma (Trey) Wright, Samuel Pyle, Caleb Metzger, Ainsley Metzger, and Tenley Metzger; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Metzger and Ada Metzger; brother, Stan (Kathy) Metzger of Washington; and his sister-in-law, Diane Metzger of North Manchester. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Maxine Sleighter Metzger, and his brother, Richard Metzger.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Ulrey Cemetery, rural North Manchester, Indiana. Friends may call 1-2 pm Saturday, August 2, at the church. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main Street, North Manchester.

Preferred memorial is ALS Foundation of Indiana.
