Rhea Comen Obituary

Rhea Comen
May 3, 1931 - March 7, 2026
Rhea Comen of Stamford, 94 years old, passed away on March 7, 2026. Born in Harlem, NY on May 3, 1931, she moved to Stamford when she was 3.
Rhea graduated from Stamford High School and then went to Forsythe School of Dental Hygiene where she was certified to be a dental hygienist. She initially worked in private practices before entering the Stamford Public Schools where she was thrilled to have the opportunity to educate children in the importance of dental hygiene. She retired in 1996.
Rhea lived a long and happy life. Together with her husband Alan they raised their three daughters. She was instrumental in filling their home of 60 years with love and warmth. As an adult she was an active member of Hadassah and looked forward to playing mah jong. Rhea was an avid reader and everyone knew her at the Harry Bennett branch of the Ferguson Library. Her passion was crocheting. Throughout her life she crocheted items for family and friends. Most recently her generosity was enjoyed by babies and elementary school children to whom she donated hats and scarves. She and Alan spent many winters after their retirements in Delray Beach, FL where they made lifelong friends.
Rhea will be remembered as a kind and loving person. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious. Her good-hearted spirit will be missed.
Rhea was predeceased by her parents William and Anna "May" Golden; her brother Stanley Golden; her brother-in-law Fred Sherbacow; and her sisters-in-law Carol Sherbacow and Joy Golden. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Alan Comen, her daughters Julie Rakowitz (Lenny) of Stamford, CT, Karen Zink (Rich) of Pittsfield, MA and Wendy Blondin (Bob) of Westfield, MA along with her grandchildren Mark (Megan), Lauren (Alex), Daniel (Rebecca), Rebecca, Jason and Faith. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Brendan, Carter, Evan and Maggie, and was looking forward to the birth of another great grandson in just a few days.
Rhea's family would like to thank Constellation Hospice for the amazing medical care. In addition, the family is so grateful for the staff at the Residence at Summer Street. Their care, love and friendship will never be forgotten.
Donations in Rhea's memory can be sent to Bennett Cancer Center of Stamford, CT or Hadassah.org.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at Thomas Gallagher Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT, (203)-359-9999. Interment will follow Agudath Sholom Cemetery, Stamford.

Earlier today

Rhea was a light in my life for so many years. Always caring, loving and interested in everyone. We will miss all of the lunches and conversations we had for over 25 years. I will miss hearing her say hello darling and her cheerful voice. My condolences to the entire family.
