Richard J. Alig Sr., age 90, of Wauseon passed away Thursday morning, May 9, 2024, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon.
Prior to his retirement in 2005, he had worked as a Tool and Die Maker for Tenneco, Inc. in Napoleon, for more than 40 years.
Richard was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on Feb. 17, 1934, the son of Valentine and Helen (Poulton) Alig. In 1956, he married Patricia Manion, and she preceded him in death in 2005.
He was an active member in St. Caspar's Catholic Church in Wauseon and also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, was a huge Notre Dame fan, and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Valerie Walton of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kim Gay of Whitehouse, Brenda Dunning of Wauseon and Rich Alig of Wauseon. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; son, Jeffrey Alig; daughter, Christine Schaffner; and siblings, Margaret Ann Thalman, Paul Alig, Jean Bechtel, Pat Alig White, Marilyn Alig and Jim Alig.
Visitation for Richard will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024, in the Pope John XXIII Room at St. Caspar Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, also in the church, with the Rev. Father Todd Dominique, officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Caspar Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to St. Caspar Catholic Church, Elara Caring Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
