Richard "Dick" Raymond Baker, Jr., 78 went to receive his heavenly body on Sunday March 3rd. The weeks prior he was able to visit with his family and friends as everyone gently kissed him goodbye.
Richard was a graduate of the 1963 class at Lawrence Central High School before going on to proudly serve his country in the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War. For 25 years, he was a dedicated employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield and then moving on to Conseco before his retirement. He was a man of honor, service and family. He set a great example of right and wrong/independence and work ethic for his children.
He was recently able to celebrate his 30th anniversary with his beautiful wife, Sally Baker.
He was survived by his sister Linda Francke of Sellersburg. He was so proud of his children, Kevin Baker, Dawn Lyon, Tammy Behrens (Karl) and Kelly Merket. One of his greatest joys in life was being a Papa to Kolin Behrens, Kailey Behrens, Connor Lyon, Tanner Lyon, and Adalynn Lyon.
He would've liked to say that he was the world's greatest golfer, but he did enjoy playing the game. The Indianapolis Colts lost one of their greatest fans as he was a season Colts ticket holder since the first season in 1984. He also really enjoyed bowling, books and movies. He had a wonderful tradition of going to see all the new superhero movies with his son as soon as they came out to the theaters.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan - Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Road. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of service.
