Richard Edward Balcer, 90, of Manchester, MD, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, at BridgingLife Hospice in Westminster, MD. Born on January 2, 1934, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Edward F. Balcer and Elizabeth A. Whitman Balcer. He was the beloved husband of Wanda Vera Balcer for 65 years.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for many years with companies like National Can and Bausch & Lomb as a machinist and shop floor supervisor. He enjoyed bird watching, especially hummingbirds. He was a talented woodworker and craftsman. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are children: Daniel Balcer and wife Valerie, Barbara Wolinski and husband Michael, grandchildren: Nicole Shaw, Isaac Wolinski, Katlyn Wolinski, Rachel Wolinski, Hunter Petrik, and great-grandchildren: Camdyn, Stella, and Cora Shaw, and Dov Lefkowits. He is also survived by his brother: Joseph Balcer and wife Ann.
Richard was predeceased by his daughter: Lisa Ann Petrik, and grandson: Blake Petrik.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, July 10, from 1-3 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD, where a prayer service will begin at 3 pm.
Interment is private.
If desired, donations may be offered to the BridgingLife Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
