Rich, age 56, passed away on July 12, 2025, and was born on March 7, 1969, to Bob and Carole in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Rich grew up with a spirit of adventure, spending his early years camping with his family and riding dirt bikes with his cousins. That love for the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life. Whether it was kayaking, grilling, having a bonfire, or setting up camp in Frankfort or Mackinac City, Rich found joy and peace under the open sky.
He married the love of his life, Marie Boundy, and together they raised two children, Emma and Jack, who were the center of his world. Rich was a devoted husband and father, always ready with a joke, a listening ear, or an invitation to sit around the fire.
A lifelong sports fan, Rich cheered passionately for the Detroit Lions, Tigers, and University of Michigan teams. The fall season was reserved for football-both college and pro-and he never missed a chance to catch a game. He also had a love for racing, making trips to Michigan International Speedway a favorite tradition.
Rich will be remembered for his warm heart, adventurous spirit, and the joy he brought to every gathering. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rich is survived by his wife, Marie Berndt; children, Emma "Doodle Bug" Berndt and Jack "Buddy Boy" Berndt; sister, Lori (John) Zimmerman; niece, Olivia "Squeaky" Zimmerman; and dogs, Josie and Shiloh. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Carole; brother, James Eddy; father-in-law, Ken Boundy; and dogs, Harley and Noelle.
