Richard L. Bignell, Sr. 73, of Pepin, passed away on April 19, 2025, due to an accident at home. He was born February 6, 1952, in Durand to Sherman Sr. and Annabelle (Kralewski) Bignell.
Richard loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting season, when he went hunting with his grandchildren. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and camping up north. He also enjoyed refinishing wood items, especially of late, roll top desks for his sisters. He was known to family and friends as Mr. Fix-It. Seldom were things thrown if he had an idea on how to fix them or at least try. He loved helping his children and grandchildren with projects and teaching them as he went. His passing has left a void in the hearts of family, our friends, and those whose lives he touched.
Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years Delrita, daughter: Tina (Ryan) Cook, sons: Richard Bignell Jr. (Abby), Ryan (Kirstia) Bignell. Sisters: Jean (Larry) Fauske of Farmington, MN. Jane Cowden of Hastings, MN. Sharon (Greg) Leisgang of LaCrosse, Brothers: Sherman Jr. (Mischa) of Stroud, OK., Edwin (Donna) 0f Welch, MN Bryan (Diana) of Faribault, MN, Kevin (Pat) of Pepin, WI. Brothers-in-law: Daniel (Kathy) McRoberts of Stevens Point and Jeremy Christiansen. Grandchildren: Austin & Alexis Bignell, Kelsey and Alyssa Simonson, Brady & Hailey Cook, Hannah Fawcett, Heather, and Landen Bignell. Miranda (Dan) West, Dani Cook (Cameron) Great Grandchildren: Annabelle, Amara & Cain Bignell, Skyler McGee, and Kaydence & Blake West. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by brothers: Wallace, Wayne, Lyman, and Ronald (infancy). Sisters: Marie Schutts, Nancy Thompson, Bernice Clark, Mary Ann Pease, and Ilene (infancy). Daughter-in-law: Jessica Bignell. Sister-in-law: Diane Meixner, Brothers-in-law: Dale, Douglas & Delbert (Tom) McRoberts. Rich Pease, Donald Schutts, Rick Clark, Perry Thompson. Niece: Jessie Bignell, Father-in-law: Richard Christiansen, Merle Leslie. Parents: Sherman Sr. & Annabelle Bignell, Darrell McRoberts, and Wilma (Keck) Leslie.
Our family would like to thank everyone for their kind and compassionate care during this time. We want to thank the Durand Ambulance and Durand Fire that responded to help, it was greatly appreciated.
There will be a celebration of life at Twisted Sisters on May 17th, 2025 from 12 noon until 4 PM.
