It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Joseph Boyd, who left us too soon on May 10, 2025, at the age of 44. Born on August 1, 1980, in Athens, TN, he was the compass of love and joy for his family and friends.
Rick was a devoted son to Kelly and Stan Boyd; and a loving father to his daughters, Brooke, Melina, Vanessa; and son, Ricky Jr. He shared a special bond with his wife, Katie Kyriakides, with whom he created countless cherished memories through the last 20 years. The family made every Sunday special with joyful family dinners filled with laughter and what Rick lovingly called "food food."
An adventurous spirit, Rick had a genuine passion for the outdoors. He cherished moments spent at the beach collecting rocks and shells, always with a twinkle in his eye. He was a big kid at heart who delighted in watching cartoons with his kids, singing along to all the catchy tunes. Rick was known for his playful sense of humor, often expressing himself with a cheeky middle finger. (A playful reminder to not take life too seriously.)
Rick's love of sports shone brightly in his loyalty to the San Francisco 49ers, Michigan Wolverines, and Detroit Pistons. Whether he was watching his kids in their sports endeavors, playing wiffle ball with his buddies, or cheering on his favorite team, his enthusiasm was infectious. He had a knack for making every gathering lively, always ensuring no one ever forgot their birthdays or anniversaries.
The family of Rick Boyd has named a star for him in the International Space Registry. The star, located in the Leo constellation with the coordinates 10°8'22.3" and 11°58'2" was registered on the day of his passing, May 10, 2025. On his behalf, and in his memory, this star gets the name Rick Boyd. He was and always will be bigger than life.
Rick was preceded in death and welcomed with open arms by both maternal and both paternal grandparents, his Uncles Alfred Brownell, David Brownell & Richard Newhouse; and by his brother, David Boyd.
In honoring Rick's wonderful spirit, we invite family and friends to join us in a celebration of his life. A viewing will take place on Tuesday, May 27, from 4-7pm at Connors Funeral Home (55 West Main Rd, Portsmouth), where we will share stories, laughter, and love in his memory. A service will follow on May 28th, also at Connors Funeral Home, at 10am. Rick will be laid to rest at Portsmouth Cemetery. A memorial luncheon will follow at the Wyndham Newport Hotel (240 Aquidneck Ave, Middletown).
Though he has left us, Rick's vibrant spirit will continue to live on in the memories we hold dear. As we remember him, let us carry forward the laughter, love, and passion for life that he embodied every day. May you rest in eternal peace, Rick. You will be sorely missed but always warmly remembered.
