Richard "Chopper" Boyer, a cherished figure in the Potosi community, passed away on February 6, 2025 at the age of 76. Born on December 15, 1948 in Old Mines, he was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country from 1969 to 1971. Chopper was united in marriage to Barbara (Koch) Boyer on October 18, 1996 and lovingly shared 28 years together.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Boyer; son, David Boyer, and wife Michele of Potosi, MO; daughter, Christine Carlson and husband David of Crossville, TN; brother, Kenny Boyer and wife Pat of Potosi, MO; sisters, Becky Boyer of Potosi, MO, Geri Pratt and husband Bill of Newport, AR, and Kathie Belfield of Saint Louis, MO; granddaughters, Madelyn and Mallory; sisters-in-law, Robin Boyer of Potosi, MO, and Charlotte Boyer of Farmington, MO, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Chopper was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy (Pashia) and Samuel Boyer; brothers, Tom "Yogi" Boyer, Billy Joe Boyer, and Donald Boyer; and sisters, Anna Lee Johnston, Judy Boyer, Norma Jean Boyer, Benita Coleman, and Carol Ballard.

Chopper was known for his loving and giving personality. He had a deep passion for craftsmanship; as a master woodworker and talented tinkerer, he was adept at rebuilding cars and could diagnose mechanical issues just by listening to the engine. His resourcefulness and creativity allowed him to not only build but also repair anything that came his way. He enjoyed cruising around town in his beloved '57 Chevy, always a joyful sight to see. Ultimately, Chopper's proudest accomplishments were his dedication as a husband, father, and grandfather, roles in which he truly excelled.

How do you describe a man of 76 years, a son, brother, father, and great grandfather without writing a novel? The best was to describe Chopper was his great love of life and the relationships he continually built and maintained. Whether just a visit and talk, or helping to fix something or building a project. He had a unique way of showing his love, but it was always there. Making everyday a productive day and working on those relationships.

Chopper will be sorely missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and kindness.

Potosi Elks Lodge #2218 will hold a Memorial Service Monday Night at 7 P.M.
Memorial offerings may be directed to the Bates Creek Veterinary Clinic to establish a fund to help in the Spay and Neutering of animals.
