Richard Burger, 91, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Norton Clark Hospital on Sunday, May 4, 2025 following complications from hip surgeries over the past six months.
Born on August 11, 1933, in New Middletown, Indiana, Richard was the beloved son of Paul and Edna Burger. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years before beginning a long and dedicated career as a lineman and serviceman with Public Service Indiana, which later became Duke Energy.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Richard was known for his deep love of sports and community. He directed the men's softball and volleyball leagues at his church and spent many years participating in local bowling leagues. A passionate fan of Indiana University basketball, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Indianapolis Colts, Richard rarely missed a game.
Above all, Richard cherished time with his family-especially at Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. Whether piloting the houseboat, cruising on the pontoon, or watching the grandkids ride the jet ski, he ensured every moment was filled with laughter, adventure, and lasting memories. Bonfires, fishing, swimming, and storytelling by the water were just a few of the many ways he brought joy to his loved ones.
In recent years, he embraced technology to stay connected, learning how to FaceTime with his two great-grandsons in Florida-a testament to the love and pride he held for his growing family.
Richard will be remembered for his willingness to help any and all friends and family with anything they needed. He was a kind and generous soul that will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, JoAnne Burger; daughter, Saundra Burger; brother, Thomas Burger. He is survived by his son, Greg Burger(Carol); 4 grandchildren, Brian Gray, Kyle Burger(Bre), Erin Gray, Allyson Sherrier(Tyler); 2 great- grandchildren, Carsen and Riley; brothers, James Burger and Jacob Burger; along with 16 nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 11-1pm with service to follow at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to, the V Foundation for Cancer Research(www.v.org) or the American Brain Tumor Association (www, abta, org or give.abta.org) to help continue the fight to find cures to cancer.
