Richard John Cascone

Richard John Cascone, born on July 25, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 89. With a heart full of kindness and a spirit brimming with resilience, Richard made a lasting impact not only on his beloved family but also on everyone who crossed his path.
For 70 remarkable years, Richard dedicated himself to his profession, working with the IBEW/International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3. His devotion to his work exemplified a steadfast commitment to excellence, inspiring peers and colleagues alike.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a man of many passions. He found immense joy in crafting beautiful art as a member of the Cape Fear Woodcarvers and was rarely seen without a club in hand on the golf course. In addition, he brought comfort and relief to many through his involvement as an Arthritic Aquatic Instructor at Magnolia Greens. His unwavering faith led him to be an active member of St. Stanislaus Church, where his infectious smile and positive attitude uplifted all those around him. Known for making friends effortlessly, Richard's warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine Antonelli Cascone, his sister, Marian Cascone and his brother, Louis Cascone. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Cascone, whose love and companionship were the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind two loving daughters, Susan Thompsen (Jeffrey) and Carol Hopps, who cherished every moment spent with their father. His legacy continues through his adored grandsons, Frank Hopps and Daniel Hopps, who looked up to their grandfather with admiration. He is also survived by his sister, Janet "Jean" Croom, whose bond with Richard was a source of strength throughout their lives.
Richard's family is comforted by the countless precious memories they shared together. Services are planned and will be announced at a later date and his loved ones take solace in knowing that his spirit lives on in their hearts and in the lessons he imparted through his unwavering positivity and boundless love.
