Richard Thomas Castillo, born on September 7th, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 16th, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Richard preceded in death by his parents Anthony Castillo and Marie Silva, his siblings Dolores, Larry, Florence, Teresa, and his Grandson Leopold.

Richard is survived by his children and stepchildren: Robin, Ricky, Natalie, Shannon, Hollie, Joe, Richard Jr (RJ), Frankie, and Heather. He also leaves behind grandchildren, including Andy, Dylan, Alyssa, Zowie, Xzaivier, Aurelius, Kandyce, Sophia, and Bella. Richard also leaves behind his siblings Tony and Pat, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and nephews.

Richard dedicated much of his career to the Denver Water Board, where he worked diligently. Later in life, he found joy in cooking for nursing home residents and held various restaurant jobs before retiring.

His passions included engaging in lively conversations with neighbors and family, sharing his stories, and caring for his beloved rescued pets. Richard loved grocery shopping and attending sporting events, especially watching his kids and grandchildren bowl or golf—even when he was hurting. He enjoyed watching old-timer shows and spending time coloring.

Richard had a playful side, often entertaining the kids with his “Kool-Aid” trick—giving them a sucker and water, promising it would magically transform into the beloved drink. He also had a habit of sampling food from others’ plates, jokingly say he was checking to make sure there is no poison – which we all could call this nowadays as “dad tax”. And whenever someone got hurt, Richard’s remedy was simple: ‘Go rub some dirt on it’ and he would give you a handful of dirt.

He relished Kool-Aid, meatloaf, and old-timer candy, ensuring they were always on hand for visitors. Shelled nuts were a holiday treat, and he believed that a pair of pliers could substitute for a nutcracker. Richard was resourceful, always finding creative ways to fix things even without the proper tools. His practical wisdom extended to always having Windex and duct tape around solving any problem and cleaning up messes.

Richard passed away on Father’s Day, and one of the best memories was taking him out to Outback Restaurant, where he ordered dessert first and appetizers. He had a wonderful time that day.

Now Richard rests in peace, reunited with loved ones: his parents, Linda (his first love), Sally (his last love), his grandson Leopold, his sisters Flo and Dolores, and his brother Larry. His memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
