Richard James Cook, 77, of Fairmont passed away on Wednesday October 22, 2025, at WVU Medicine JW Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 4, 1947, the son of the late Elmer and Grace (Sawyer) Cook.
Richard was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He worked in the oil and gas industry and was an outdoorsman at heart. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but spending time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids was his favorite pastime.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Richard (Tammy) Cook, Stephanie Hatcher, and Diana Cook, his grandchildren: Hunter Goddard and Eve, Destiny Cook and Corey, Alexa Cook, Zach Brown and Abby and Adam Blanchard, and great grandchildren Jason Ryder Goddard and Lukas Gyth Goddard, his sister Elizabeth (Eric) Starn, nieces and nephews and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother Raymond Cook.
Family and friends can gather at the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, WV for a graveside service on Monday October 27, 2025, at 11:00 am. Full military rites will be observed by the United States Navy and the Marion County Honor Guard.
