Richard Todd Coyle

Richard Todd Coyle passed away on the 16th of January 2026 at the age of 65. Todd was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He was born on October 12, 1960, to William M. Coyle and Mary Elizabeth Peters Coyle.

Todd attended Jefferson County Schools and James Rumsey Technical Institute, where he earned a degree in photography. During his early years he taught himself how to play the piano and the guitar, becoming a proficient guitarist and singer. He shared this talent within the community, around the country and in Europe. Todd played for many important occasions in the surrounding area. These events promoted peace and the environment. In his recording studio, he created several CD's that established his wonderful ability to create poetry in song, and these will be enjoyed by those he has left behind.

Todd worked for many years for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in Harpers Ferry, WV before he became a leading force in helping establish The Farmer's Market and the market-Bushel and Peck, both in Charles Town, WV. Bushel and Peck is known for its focus on organic and locally sourced produce, artisan goods and specialty items like milk, eggs and cheeses. It offers commitment to local farmers and producers.

Todd was a cornerstone of this community for decades and contributed to the music scene, local agriculture, community building and many aspects of Jefferson County. He served on many boards and committees including Charles Town City Council and the development of downtown Charles Town. Many will remember his role in playing Charles Washington, the city's founder, for special events in Charles Town.

Todd was preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his brother, William Scott Coyle (Sandi) of Charles Town, WV; his sister, Anne Wilson Portrey of Charles Town, WV; his niece, Ashley Portrey Callinan (Tim) of Annapolis, MD; nephew, Morgan Maxwell Portrey of Charles Town, WV; and great-nephew, Noah Riley Portrey of Charles Town, WV.

Todd also leaves behind a multitude of cherished cousins and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 23, 2026, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with Reverend John Bethard officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to memorial service at the funeral home.
