Richard "Dick" Crane was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 2, 1935. He was the oldest son of Henry and Janet Crane. Richard grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, attended Cornell University and earned a BS degree in Civil Engineering in 1958 and a Master's in Business Administration in 1959. He married Dorothy Crane in 1959 and they were partners on earth until her death on June 1, 2020. Richard is survived by his brother Glen, his two sons, Stephen and David, three grandchildren, Cameron, Collin, and Delaney, and two great-grandchildren, Luella and Augustus.

Richard held positions in engineering, sales, and management over 25 years with Union Carbide. After moving to Zionsville, Indiana in 1981, Richard formed Crane & Company, a sales and consulting agency. In retirement, Richard served as Zionsville Park & Recreation Board President from 1995 to 1999 and Zionsville Town Council President from 2000 to 2007. He also served on the Maplelawn Farmstead Board in Zionsville from 2009 to 2014. He devoted himself to his wife and family throughout it all.

A memorial service will be begin at 11 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2025 at Hoosier Village Chapel in Zionsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Awareness Association of Central Indiana (317-255-1993) and BHI Foundation Good Neighbor Fund (765-543-3289).
